Why visit Barbados
Barbados blends Caribbean warmth with a distinctly British heritage, from cricket grounds and village churches to afternoon tea. The sheltered west coast offers calm, glittering water and elegant resorts, while the Atlantic east coast is wilder and ideal for walks and surf. Add excellent restaurants, rum distilleries and friendly locals, and it is easy to see why so many visitors return.

- Harrison's Cave: A tram tour through crystal caverns with streams, waterfalls and towering stalactites beneath the island's interior.

- Turtle snorkelling: Boat trips along the west coast let you swim with green turtles and explore shallow reefs and wrecks.
Best time to visit Barbados
The sunniest and driest months run from December to April, with steady breezes and little humidity, making this the most popular period. May to November is warmer and wetter, with better value and a quieter feel. The island sits at the southern edge of the hurricane belt, so direct hits are less frequent than elsewhere.
Getting there from the UK
Direct flights from London take around 8 to 9 hours, operating from Heathrow and Gatwick at many times of year. You will arrive at Grantley Adams International Airport on the south coast, with most west coast resorts about 30 to 45 minutes away by road.
Good to know
The Barbados dollar is the local currency and is pegged to the US dollar at two to one, and US dollars are often accepted. English is spoken everywhere. Sockets are Type A and B at 115 volts. Always check the latest GOV.UK foreign travel advice for entry requirements before you travel.
