Why visit Dubai
Dubai rises from the Arabian Gulf desert as a city built on ambition, where record-setting towers stand beside creekside souks and old wind-tower houses. Days can mean beach time, rooftop views, golden dunes at sunset or long lunches in air-conditioned malls, while evenings bring waterfront promenades and some of the region's most inventive dining. It suits couples, families and stopover travellers alike, and it is easy to pace at your own speed.
Highlights of Dubai
- Burj Khalifa: Head up to the observation decks for sweeping views over the skyline, the Gulf and the desert beyond, ideally close to sunset.
- Old Dubai and the souks: Cross Dubai Creek by abra water taxi and wander the spice and gold souks and the Al Fahidi historic district.
- Desert safari: Travel by 4x4 over the dunes, then settle into a camp for a barbecue dinner under open skies.
- Palm Jumeirah and the beaches: Combine resort beach days with a stroll along the crescent, then enjoy the sea views and relaxed dining.
- Dubai Marina and the waterfront: Walk the marina promenade among the towers, watch the yachts and choose from a huge range of restaurants.
Best time to visit Dubai
Dubai is at its best from November to March, when days are warm and sunny and evenings are comfortable enough for outdoor dining. April and October are still pleasant, if hotter. From June to September, temperatures climb very high and humidity is heavy, so most activity moves indoors. If you prefer quieter streets and cooler sea swims, aim for the shoulder months.
Getting there from the UK
Direct flights from London to Dubai International take around seven hours, with services also running from several other UK airports such as Manchester and Birmingham. Many travellers arrive overnight and are met mid-morning. Sky Travel can arrange flights from UK airports to suit your dates and tailor the rest of your trip around them.
Good to know
The currency is the UAE dirham, and cards are widely accepted. Arabic is the official language, but English is spoken almost everywhere. Plugs are usually the UK three-pin type, so adaptors are rarely needed. Dress modestly away from beaches and pools, especially in religious sites. Always check the latest GOV.UK foreign travel advice for entry requirements before you book.
