Jamaica Holidays

Jamaica

Overview

One of the largest islands in the Caribbean and the birthplace of reggae, Jamaica has found the perfect recipe for luxury holidays, grand hotels and resorts, gourmet restaurants, designer stores, and boutiques, coupled with VIP service, world-class entertainment, and glorious beaches. Soak in the laid-back culture and get hypnotized by the kaleidoscope of glistening sand, various hues of blue, and palms swaying to the reggae rhythm. Pamper yourself with spa treatments, or turn to lively entertainment and the ocean for fun things to do to spice up your holidays to Jamaica. Lounge on Jamaica’s most beautiful stretches of white sand at Negril Beach, backed by breathtaking cliffs. Embark on catamaran cruises to spot dolphins and whales or snorkel on the coral-fringed coast.

Practice your swing on world championship golf courses, or try your luck at luxury casinos. Go trekking through lush rainforests in search of Dunn’s River Falls, 180 meters of gently cascading waterfalls forming chilled pools for you to swim in. Hike or mountain bike up the iconic Blue Mountain Peak, a UNESCO-protected World Heritage Site. Fuel your adventures with jerk cuisine and accompany stunning sunsets with delicious rum cocktails. Enjoy refreshing dips in the waters of Montego Bay that allegedly have healing powers. Whether that is true or not, we can’t be sure, but we can guarantee your stress and worries will be swept away.

Why visit Jamaica

Jamaica is a vibrant Caribbean island where reggae rhythms, jerk smoke and warm hospitality set the tone. Days can be spent on the white sands of Negril, climbing Dunn's River Falls or tasting coffee in the Blue Mountains, while evenings bring live music and rum cocktails. Beyond the resorts, the island has real character, with lush hills, waterfalls, colourful towns and a proud musical heritage.

Highlights of Jamaica

  • Negril's Seven Mile Beach: Relax on a long stretch of soft sand, then watch the sunset from the cliffs with live music nearby.
  • Dunn's River Falls: Climb the tiered waterfall near Ocho Rios, ideally with a guide, for a fun and refreshing day out.
  • Blue Mountains: Visit coffee plantations in the cool hills, sample some of the island's famous beans and enjoy sweeping views.
  • Bob Marley Museum, Kingston: Tour the singer's former home to learn about his life and reggae's roots, then explore Kingston's lively food and music scene.
  • Jerk food and rum: Taste smoky jerk chicken and pork at roadside stalls, and try local rum on a distillery visit.

Best time to visit Jamaica

The driest and most comfortable months run from mid November to mid April, with sunny days and lower humidity, which also makes it the busiest and most expensive period. From May to October it is hotter and wetter, and the Atlantic hurricane season runs from June to November, with the highest risk in late summer and autumn. Plan flexibility into those months.

Getting there from the UK

Direct flights from London to Montego Bay take around ten hours, and Kingston is also served from the UK on some routes. Montego Bay is convenient for Negril, Ocho Rios and the north coast, usually with a transfer by road. Sky Travel can arrange flights from UK airports and tailor your stay.

Good to know

The currency is the Jamaican dollar, though US dollars are commonly accepted in tourist areas and cards work in most hotels and larger venues. English is the official language, and you will often hear Jamaican Patois. Plugs are usually the US two-pin type, so bring an adaptor.
