Best time to go
The dry season, from June to October, is widely considered the best time for wildlife viewing in the Serengeti and Ngorongoro, as animals gather near water. January and February also offer good sightings. Zanzibar is warm all year, with heavier rains typically in April and May.
Before you go
Pack neutral coloured clothing, a wide-brimmed hat, binoculars, strong insect repellent and a warm layer for early morning game drives. Tanzania uses the Tanzanian shilling, and plugs are often UK style three-pin. Ask your GP or travel clinic about vaccinations and malaria advice well in advance, and arrange travel insurance.
